The Bakery Changing Lives

A year ago, there was no bakery in Kirants, a village located just 1 kilometer from the border with Azerbaijan. Residents there and in the surrounding villages had to get their bread and other baked goods from the city of Ijevan, 26 kilometers (16 miles) away, or even Yerevan, 159 kilometers (99 miles) away.

Now, Elita Alaverdyan, a once aspiring business owner, is running Peri Lavash and Pastry, Kirants's first bakery. With the new baking tools you gave her through our LeverEdge Program, she is earning about $620 per month, money which she will use to pay off loans and save for her children's future.
